Until recently, spider silk reigned as the strongest biologic material in the world. A group of engineers from the United Kingdom have found that the tiny teeth located on the tongue of the limpet have a tensile strength five times greater than most spider silk!
Limpets use their teeth to cling to rocks along the seashore and scrape algae off rocks for food. Their teeth are 100 times thinner than a human hair. You can compare their strength to a single strand of spaghetti holding up 3,000 pounds!
